Advancing sales theory through a holistic view: how social structures frame selling

October, 2020 – Sales research is increasingly recognizing the blending of salesperson responsibilities, the growing number of interactions involved in sales processes and activities, and the nonlinear nature of value (co)creation. “Evaluating adolescents’ responses to Internet ads: Role of ad skepticism, Internet literacy, and parental mediation.”

May, 2020 – This paper is part of a wider project developed by Dr. Lin and her coauthors to understand parents' role in shaping their children's internet ad and social media literacy. "We collected dyadic data from both the parents and the children to understand the elaborative process that occurs from both parental mediation strategies used," Dr. Lin explained. "We find that such strategies are driven by parental style and other factors, leading to differential outcomes in children's responses to online ads. This is the third paper published from this project."

In this article, adolescents’ responses are compared to two formats (easily recognizable versus not easily recognizable) internet ads. We find that internet literacy and ad skepticism are necessary for adolescents to effectively apply persuasion knowledge to identify both ad formats. Second, the research demonstrates that parental mediation and parents’ levels of Internet skills are critical for children’s development of Internet literacy. As a result, this article advances our understanding of adolescents’ responses to different Internet ad formats and the influential role of parental mediation in facilitating children’s development of such skills. Read the article abstract.
