On first reference, use the full name of the university: California State University, Monterey Bay.
Use CSUMB or CSU Monterey Bay in subsequent references, but do not introduce it as an abbreviation in parentheses.
Not: California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB).
An exception to using the full name on first reference may be made in internal publications, published under a CSUMB masthead, and when there is no question as to who owns the content. In subsequent references, authorized forms are CSUMB and the university.
It is permissible to shorten the name to CSU Monterey Bay on the first reference in internal documents and materials that are under the university masthead. Do not shorten to Cal State Monterey Bay or Monterey Bay when referring to the university.

The CSUMB logo brings together three components of the university’s broader identity: the head and paws of a sea otter, which is the CSUMB mascot; an icon of the university seal, our official stamp of authority; and the full name of the university, stacked in two lines with emphasis given to our location.
Colors and fonts
Bay Blue, Valley Green, and Golden Sand are CSUMB’s primary colors. They reflect the natural beauty of Monterey County, paying respect to the agricultural and marine influences of the region enhances our brand.
