Look for the program you are interested in below, the deadlines for each program varies, but the application is the same for all programs. The application process is explained below.

Application Deadlines
Summer 2024
Summer 2024 applications open October 1, 2023. Priority Deadline: February 1, 2024. Rolling admissions on a space available basis after that. Program application can be closed once filled anytime after February 1, 2024. See deadlines posted in Cal State Apply.
Special Education/Curriculum & Instruction
Application Deadlines
Fall 2024 Applications open October 1, 2023. Priority Deadline: May 1, 2024. Rolling Admissions through June 15, 2024 on a space available basis.
Note on Special Education: As of now, the Department of Education and Leadership will not be accepting Fall 2024 applications for the MAE Special Education (with Clear Credential) emphasis.
Master of Arts in Education with an Educational Leadership emphasis
Application Deadlines
Fall 2024 Applications open October 1, 2023. Priority deadline is May 1, 2024. Application Closes June 15, 2024.
Application steps
- Complete the Cal State Apply application at Cal State Apply.
- After submission of your CSU application, you will receive an email from CSUMB with the information on how to access your CSUMB, CSUMB username, CSUMB.edu dashboard, and program application.
- Once you have submitted your application, we will contact you to schedule an interview.

Transfer Credits
Candidates may transfer in up to 6 graduate credits (two courses), provided those credits will be no more than 7 years old at the time of the candidate’s proposed graduation, and that they fit the general focus of the program. Candidates with credits that are older than 7 years may be able to do some additional work to demonstrate that they have kept current in the field that the credit represent. Candidates will need to submit a syllabus or course description of any requested transfer credits.

Applicants to our program may request our program policies (including the Student Grievance Policy) in our office (Bldg. 3) or through email (teach@csumb.edu).
Pre-Admission Disclosure for Credential Programs
Admission into programs leading to licensure and credentialing does not guarantee that students will obtain a license or credential. Licensure and credentialing requirements are set by agencies that are not controlled by or affiliated with the CSU and requirements can change at any time. For example, licensure or credentialing requirements can include evidence of the right to work in the United States (e.g., social security number or tax payer identification number) or successfully passing a criminal background check. Students are responsible for determining whether they can meet licensure or credentialing requirements. The CSU will not refund tuition, fees, or any associated costs, to students who determine subsequent to admission that they cannot meet licensure or credentialing requirements.
