Health Insurance
Due to the high cost of unexpected accidents, illness, or injury, all students are strongly encouraged to carry health insurance. Health insurance is mandatory for all international students.
Under the new Affordable Care Act, many of our students, families and staff members will be eligible for either no-cost, public insurance under the newly expanded Medi-Cal program, OR heavily discounted (subsidized) private insurance purchased through a new government entity known as Covered California.
Covered California is the online marketplace for affordable, quality health insurance. At CoveredCA.com you can:
- Compare health insurance plans
- Determine how much financial assistance you may receive
- Learn about your options, benefits, and costs
- Purchase your insurance
Regardless of your medical insurance status, as an enrolled CSUMB student you are eligible for "basic" health services at the CHC at no additional cost. Other medical services are provided at discounted rates. The CHC is your primary care provider and can bill most PPO insurance carriers. When necessary, the CHC will refer you to a specialist to meet your medical needs.
If you have questions about services beyond our "basic" health services provided to students, please see our Fees page.
The Campus Health Center is NOT a retail pharmacy. CHC can only refill prescriptions that were originally prescribed at this clinic for pick up at the preferred pharmacy.
