Education Code Maternity Leave (ECML)

Maternity leave under the California Education Code may provide eligible permanent employees with job protected unpaid time off for a maximum of one year, for the purposes of pregnancy, childbirth or the recovery there from as determined by the employee, leave credits may be used in combination with unpaid leave. Leave credits must be exhausted prior to using unpaid leave. Some Collective Bargaining Agreements supersede Education Code Section 89519. This benefit is also subject to Pregnancy Disability Leave, CSU Family Medical Leave.
