Scholarships for Incoming and Current Students

There are a number of ways to support your education as a mathematics and statistics major.

  • For students who are interested in becoming math teachers, there are additional scholarships available. Each semester, students can receive Math and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) scholarships between $500-$2550 (amount depends on level of involvement in activities). To join the MSTI community to receive a scholarship and valuable information about teaching and becoming a teacher, please fill out this MSTI registration form. More information about this semester’s MSTI scholarships is here. An additional scholarship,  Noyce Rise Ready, offers students $12,000 for their senior year and $13,500 for credential year (with a commitment to teach in a high need district for four years). Applications for Noyce Rise Ready are due late Fall semester and/or January each year. For students interested in teaching, there is also the Middle Class Scholarship, but you must have a FAFSA or Dream Act Application on file, meet certain income and assets requirements, and fill out your FAFSA or Dream Act Application by March 2nd of every year in order to see if you qualify.

  • Pacific Alliance for Low-income Inclusion in Statistics and Data Science is for Pell-eligible students who will be able to receive up to $10,000 each year (up to two years) plus a potential third year for graduate school at one of our alliance partner institutions! The new scholarship is for pell-eligible students with a Major or Minor in Statistics or Data Science that have a graduation date in 3-4 semesters. The application deadline is April 15th. Please reach out to Dr. Judith Canner, if you have any questions. Apply here: https://www.paliisads.org/apply

There is also the The Gertrude Cox Scholarship for Statistics ($1000) which is also open to those that will be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors next year.

  • For both Mathematics and Statistics Majors there is the The Mathematics Achievement Award ($1000) and is open to those that will be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors next year. There is also the Bruce W. Woolpert Scholarship, which is for mathematics and statistics students from a high school in Santa Cruz or San Benito County and is open to students at all academic levels.

There are many other scholarships including two for students interested in agriculture, but include mathematics and statistics such as Merrill Farms scholarship and the Sturdy Oil Scholarship

You can see a complete list of scholarships here: https://csumb.academicworks.com/

  • It is never too late to fill out a FAFSA application to see if you qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. Please log onto studentaid.gov  and add CSUMB school code to the application:032603.

If you need help with your FAFSA, please contact Financial Aid or attend the Drop-in Financial Counseling Sessions.

The CSUMB scholarships have an application deadline on March 30, 2024.

In order to apply for most scholarships you need the following (but it varies):
