Two CSU Monterey Bay organizations are marking Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, by asking for donations for their programs. 

The campus’ Basic Needs program helps to make a real difference in the lives of our students facing food and housing insecurities. Supporting Basic Needs ensures that CSUMB students have access to essential resources like nutritious meals, stable housing and a range of wellness security services. 

Basic Needs made a huge impact in 2022-23:

• 3,013 students visited The Hub (provides nonperishable grocery items, healthy produce, grab-and-go snacks and prepared food)
• 1,257 visited the produce truck
• 121 students received $2,360 in vouchers to receive fresh produce at regional farmer’s markets
• $248,000 in emergency funds was awarded to a total of 372 students.

The “Students for Startups” initiative of the Monterey County Gives! fundraising campaign is thriving because of community support. Generous donations have enabled student interns to gain hands-on experience, assisting entrepreneurs in various crucial roles. These interns are actively involved in designing logos, creating websites and developing marketing materials. They work closely with entrepreneurs, offering valuable insights and practical support, ultimately helping these businesses take important strides towards success.

The Institute for Innovation and Economic Development has a goal of raising $27,000 for Students for Startups by Dec. 31. Donations can be made here.
