While a recent study showed California ranks low when it comes to computer science instruction for K-12 students, CSU Monterey Bay is near the top for its online computer science program.

AZED, which bills itself as a coalition of educators and journalists focused on covering education issues in depth, has rated CSUMB No. 5 in the nation for Best Online Computer Science Degrees 2023. The university was No. 1 among the western schools on the list. 

“The small size group allows instructors to provide personalized instruction to online students,” AZED said in its assessment. “Every week, you can participate in a video conference to communicate with your teachers and peers. Database systems, software design, and Internet programming are among the topics covered in the curriculum.”
