Banff Mountain Film Festival to benefit CSUMB’s Habitat Stewardship Project

February 21, 2024

The annual touring Banff Mountain Film Festival, hosted by Monterey’s Golden State Theatre 7 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 24, will benefit Cal State Monterey Bay’s Habitat Stewardship Project.

According to Christina McKnew, HSP’s nursery and restoration coordinator, the screening will feature award-winning films and documentaries revolving around outdoor sports, mountain culture, and environmental, adventure and exploration.

Habitat Stewardship Project, formerly Return of the Natives, is a community and school-based environmental education program that enlists volunteer community members and students to restore native habitats in Monterey County.

One way they do that is through regular plantings of native plant and tree species. There will be one such planting 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. the same day as the film festival at Creekside Terrace Trailhead in the Fort Ord National Monument. Volunteers can register online.

Laura Lee Lienk, director of HSP, will make remarks at the film festival. More information and tickets can be found online.
