A preview of this Friday's presidential investiture ceremony of Vanya QuiƱones
February 7, 2023
The presidential investiture ceremony of Vanya Quiñones takes place Friday, Feb. 10, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. at CSUMB’s World Theater, followed by a community reception from 4 – 6 p.m. at CSUMB’s University Center.
The ceremony is one of the oldest traditions in academia, dating back to the Middle Ages, and confers the authority and symbols of university stewardship to the sitting president.
Highlights include a procession of delegates from colleges/universities dressed in full regalia; distinguished guests including elected officials; CSUMB faculty, students, staff, donors, alumni, friends and family; the conferring of a ceremonial mace and presidential medallion upon Quiñones by CSU Interim Chancellor Jolene Koester; and live music and performances.
Quiñones will speak at the ceremony about how education transformed her own family and her belief that CSUMB can collectively change the lives of our students.
"We know from our stories that when one member dreams of a better future via education, it opens doors for the whole family and for future generations," she said.
She is only the fourth president of CSUMB. The last investiture took place in 2013.
Although originating from ancient and formal tradition, true to Quiñones’s spirit, there will be fun and whimsy worked into the proceedings, including the John Wineglass Jazz Trio and the CSUMB Student Choir doing a rendition of “This Girl is on Fire.” And music, dance, food and fellowship will be on hand at the community reception.
The livestream of President Vanya Quiñones' Investiture Ceremony will be available to watch at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 10. See the Investiture web page for more information.
