Campus utilities maintenance requires water, natural gas outages March 28-29
March 15, 2023
On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 28-29, during Spring Break, CSUMB will experience temporary service outages of water and natural gas. This will affect the availability of water, hot water and heat on campus.
The outages are necessary as part of scheduled preventive maintenance of gas and water distribution systems to be completed by MBS Engineering Inc. and the Marina Coast Water District. These dates were chosen as the best time to make these repairs to impact as few people on campus as possible.
Service Outage Schedule:
Tuesday, March 28
7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. | No water in buildings 3, 203, 205, 504, 506 and 508.
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. | No hot water or heat anywhere on campus.
Wednesday, March 29
7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. | No water in buildings 10, 21, 23, 98, 208, 210 and 211.
Select buildings on campus will still have water during these outages with access to restrooms:
- Building 14 — Otter Express (Bring your own reusable cup and get free coffee)
- Building 16 — Dining Commons
- Building 53 — Chapman Science Academic Center
- Building 97 — Alumni and Visitor Center
- Building 504 — College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
- Building 552 — Otter Student Union
No hot water will be available anywhere on campus Tuesday, March 28.
Please refer to the campus maps and building lists to verify if your building will be impacted.
Important to know:
Before outages
- In the weeks prior to the outages, work crews may reroute walkways and/or post “Sidewalk Closed” signs. Please be mindful of the signage.
- On the days before and during the outages, natural gas odor may be present. This is normal. However, should odors persist past the scheduled repair dates, please contact Facilities Management at 831- 582-3700.
During outages
- No hot water or heat in any buildings, including the residence halls, during the outages. Please plan accordingly and wear additional layers of clothing if the weather is cold.
- Store drinking water in advance and avoid using water-based appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers.
- Make alternative arrangements for meals, such as purchasing prepared foods or eating out, because cooking will be challenging without a gas supply.
- Outages may cause disruptions to classes or other campus activities. Faculty and staff will communicate any changes or cancellations.
After outages
- Water may flow unevenly or pulsate from faucets or fixtures when first used.
- Water may appear rusty or dirty from harmless mineral sediments that break loose. If it does not run clear after a few minutes, please call Facilities Management at 831-582-3700
Please email Facilities Management or call 831-582-3700 with any questions or concerns.
