This message was sent to all university employees on April 8, 2020 by Kevin R. Saunders, Vice President of Administration & Finance.

On Wednesday, April 8, 2020, CSUMB adjusted our operations and building access policies to comply with the expanded Monterey County shelter-at-home order. Our primary concern must continue to be for the health and safety of the students, faculty, and staff at CSUMB. Everyone must take all necessary steps to protect themselves and our community, helping to slow the spread of the virus.

If you are required to work on campus, do not come to work if you are sick or symptomatic. Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

• Fever
• Coughing
• Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

Faculty and staff who exhibit symptoms should contact their primary health care provider before visiting the provider's office to facilitate appropriate arrangements.

Any time you are in a campus building, you must:

• Maintain a minimum six-foot distance from one another
  • Follow all signs, marking and posted occupancy restrictions for social distancing
• Sneeze and cough into a cloth or tissue or, if not available, use your elbow
• Do not shake hands or engage in any unnecessary physical contact

Use a cloth face covering

The CDC advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.

Campus officials are in the process of obtaining cloth face coverings to provide essential employees who would like to use them. Everyone is encouraged to use cloth face coverings.

Surgical masks and N-95 respirators are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.

Building access and sanitization

All regularly occupied buildings use additional measures to protect the public health, including:

• Clean and disinfect common areas at least daily
• Disinfecting all payment portals, pens, and styluses after each use
• Disinfecting all high-contact surfaces frequently
• Make soap and water for handwashing available in each restroom
• Makes hand sanitizer available in publicly accessible areas and near entrances
• Provides disinfectant and related supplies to all essential employees upon request
  
  • Non-essential employees should work from home and not be on campus

To protect our community, only essential personnel are permitted to access buildings. Only the University President or a Vice President may authorize building access, and all building entrants must be arranged in advance. If you need to access a building for an essential reason, you must seek prior approval and make an appointment for building entry with a designated essential staff member of the appropriate division.

We appreciate your continued vigilance and flexibility as we adjust our practices to enhance our public health efforts.
