National Coalition Building Institute

The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) is a non-profit leadership training organization that works to eliminate prejudice and intergroup conflict in communities throughout the world.

CSUMB is a Campus Affiliate of NCBI originally developed and led by Caroline Haskell, Senior Director of Health and Wellness Services until her retirement in Spring 2019. The affiliate is now led by Steven Goings, MSW.

Under the direction of the Personal Growth and Counseling Center, CSUMB has been a Campus Affiliate of NCBI since 1998. We provide an ongoing mechanism for staff, faculty, and students to provide an institutional response to racism and other forms of oppression. We have a group of student leaders, administrators, staff, and faculty who act as a "leadership team" that is fully empowered to take on tough campus issues.
