Take a class at a UC or community college
This program allows students to take one class at either a community college or a UC while taking all the other classes (minimum of 6 units) at CSUMB.
Please note: Not all schools participate in the cross enrollment program. Please verify participation with the CC or UC you are interested in attending before submitting any paperwork to your home or host campus.
You are eligible to cross enroll if you have met all of the following requirements:
- you are a California resident.
- you have completed at least one regular term at your home campus as a properly enrolled (matriculated) student. Your home campus is where you normally are enrolled.
- you have paid appropriate enrollment fees at your home campus for the current term.
- you are enrolled at your home campus for a minimum of six units for the current term.
- you have earned a grade point average of 2.0 (C Average) for college work completed.
- you have completed appropriate academic preparation for the course you intend to take as determined by the host campus. The host campus is where you will take the additional class.
Approval of cross enrollment is valid for only the term specified and is subject to space availability, deadline, registration procedures and priorities of the host campus. You must re-apply for each term you wish to cross enroll.
You will not be charged additional course enrollment fees. However, host campuses may charge an administration fee for each term, and you will have to pay any additional fees required of other students such as lab, materials, computer use, etc...
Records of credit earned through cross enrollment are maintained at the host campus. You can request transcripts to be sent to your home campus to ensure course credit, for financial aid purpose, etc. Please follow the host campus' instructions for ordering transcripts.
The program is limited to baccalaureate courses.
Financial aid is available only through your home campus.
Participation in host campus student activities and use of campus facilities is subject to any limits set by host campus. Health services at the host campus are limited to emergencies.
You are responsible for host campus parking fees and regulations.
If you drop the host campus class, you must follow the drop procedures for that campus.
Step 1 Ask the CC or UC you are interested in attending if they participate in the cross enrollment program. Not all schools participate in the cross enrollment program. Please verify participation with the CC or UC you are interested in attending before completing any paperwork.
Step 2 If the school does participate in the cross enrollment program, complete and submit the CSU Application for cross enrollment form to the Office of the Registrar.
Step 3 If you qualify for the program, we will sign the form to certify that you meet the cross enrollment eligibility requirements and return the form to you.
Step 4 Take the form to the campus where you wish to cross enroll (the host campus) to obtain both instructor approval to enroll in the class and campus approval to participate in the cross enrollment program.
Step 5 Return the approved form to CSUMB once you are registered at the host campus so we know you are participating in the program.
Students who are enrolled at local participating California Community College or participating University of California may enroll in one class per semester, on a space available basis, for a $10 fee. Generally, students will follow these steps to request enrollment at CSUMB.
Step 1 Students should contact the registrar at their home campus for the appropriate forms and further information.
Step 2 Complete the Cross Enrollment form and obtain home campus certification.
Step 3 View schedule of classes and select from courses with seats available. Students are encouraged to secure approval of a home campus advisor to ensure course meets home campus requirements.
Step 4 Seek instructor approval to enroll in the planned course. Email the instructor at their CSUMB email and request to enroll in the course as part of the CSU Cross Enrollment program. Attach a copy of the cross enrollment form or provide specific course information in your email. For example, I am requesting to enroll in CRN 42137, MATH 150 (02) for Fall 2020. I am certified by my home campus (school name here) to participate in the CSU Cross Enrollment program for Fall 2020. According to the schedule of classes, there is space available in your course. Please reply with your approval if I am authorized to add the class.
Step 5 Submit certified Cross Enrollment form and instructor approval to CSUMB Registrar’s office after the open enrollment date and no later than the add/drop deadline for the term. Forward instructor approval email and attach certified Cross Enrollment form to records@csumb.edu.
Step 6 You will receive a confirmation email from the Registrar’s Office with instructions for fee payment after your cross enrollment request has been processed. Once you have been registered in the course, you must immediately pay your enrollment fees. Students who do not pay their enrollment fees by the deadline may be dropped from the course.
