Academic Program Review Policy

1.00 Purpose

This policy establishes a system of Academic Program Review at CSUMB, which is in compliance with CSU system-wide and Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) requirements. This policy is directed toward all academic programs, including certificates and other non-degree-granting academic programs.

This policy is deemed to be consistent with the University's commitment to the principles, goals, and ideals described in the CSUMB Founding Vision Statement and to its core values.

2.00 Academic Program Review

The primary purpose for program review of the academic programs is to enhance student learning by continuously improving program quality and cost effectiveness, ensuring program and resource alignment, and informing future program planning. This review is both summative and formative.

2.10 Program Review Process

The program review process is described in the current Academic Program Review Procedure Manual (hereafter, the Procedure Manual). Changes to the Procedure Manual shall be approved by the Provost's Office, in consultation with the Academic Senate Assessment Committee, Department Chairs, and Academic Affairs leadership.

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs may request a review of a specific program at a time earlier than when the program is scheduled for review.

2.20 Program Review Report

A program review report consists of a self-study, external review, internal review, and program improvement plan (PIP). It shall follow the guidelines described in the Procedure Manual. Faculty, staff, administrators, and external reviewers shall prepare and collect information as assigned in the Procedure Manual.

3.00 Continuous Renewal

This policy shall be reviewed ten years from its effective date to determine its effectiveness and appropriateness. This policy may be reviewed before that time as necessary.
