Faculty Information About Student Accommodations

The faculty process in implementing an accommodation begins when a student presents them with a confidential SDAC accommodation letter for the current semester, stating that the student has  a …..“federally recognized disabling condition” ...and is.. “authorized for the following accommodations”….

Alternative testing requires the most coordination between the faculty and the student. Different types of accommodations may be suggested based on the academic environment, the course objectives, and the abilities of the student.

At the beginning of the semester, as well as prior to each quiz/test/exam during the semester, invite students with a testing accommodation to communicate their testing needs, in order to review how their testing accommodation will be fulfilled each time.

Faculty have three alternative testing options based on the timing of the test accommodation, the student’s extended time request and any technical needs. Faculty are to submit one of the three forms each semester for each student. Please choose the appropriate form based on the type of proctoring or administration needed.

  • Faculty Administered Testing – faculty or someone from their department will be administering the quiz/test/exam.
  • Test Center Administered Testing - faculty may request that the Test Center administer the quiz/test/exam. The Test Center provides an alternative testing space where students may complete exams with extra supervised time, in an environment with reduced distractions.
  • SDAC Administered Testing – If the student has a specific assistive technology need, Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) may coordinate the Test Center space for the quiz/test/exam.
