Practicum Education

Practicum education is the signature pedagogy of Social Work. The MSW program provides opportunities for students to complete their year-long practicums with a minimum of 960 hours in a variety of host settings, under the mentorship of a qualified MSW Social Worker. MSW practicum education facilitates generalist and advanced competencies in social work practice through the integration of classroom and practicum experiences. All students are required to complete four practicum courses listed below along with tracking their practicum education hours and requirements online through CalState S4.  Please reference the MSW Practicum Manual for additional requirements.

  • SW 596 - Field Practicum I
  • SW 598 - Field Practicum II
  • SW 696 - Advanced Field Practicum I
  • SW 698 - Advanced Field Practicum II

For Potential Agencies

Are you interested in making a contribution to the social work profession by mentoring the next generation of social workers?

Would you enjoy supporting and training future social workers?

If you answered yes to any of these, our faculty, staff, and community partners would like to extend an invitation to become an ally in MSW Field Education!

Please review Information & Forms for Agencies to learn all that is needed when hosting a CSUMB MSW intern and contact the Department of Social Work at mswfield@csumb.edu to initiate the process and become an approved agency.
