For Instructors
Yes! We are available for in-person exam proctoring.
A: We will send out automated notification emails (every time a student requests to schedule their test) and reminder emails (1 business day before the scheduled test date) to your main CSUMB email address. Please be sure to check those email accounts often, or even have those emails forwarded to an account that you check regularly.
A: All students who have registered with SDR and completed the orientation will receive an “Course Accommodation Form” (CAF) letter. This letter shows the student’s name, any accommodations they have been authorized to receive, and an expiration date if applicable. Please feel free to request to see a student’s copy of the CAF to confirm that they have indeed completed all necessary steps and are authorized for testing accommodations.
All students, before starting an exam, are required to place any study materials that are not allowed on the exam and any personal items, including cell phones, with the proctor staff. Any materials that are allowed on the exam are thoroughly checked and blue books are swapped out. The student is then shown into a test seat and given the exam. During the exam, the student is monitored by a proctor.
A: There are different options to deliver an exam to the Test Center. The preferred method is to submit your exam online via the Test Center’s email (test_center@csumb.edu). You or an authorized designee can also personally deliver the test to the Test Center located in Heron Hall Room 155. Lastly, if none of these options are workable, you may place the test in a sealed envelope and the student can pick the exam up from you and bring it to the Test Center. Your signature and the date and time you released the test should be written across the seal of the envelope.
A: After the exam is administered it can be emailed directly to you via your CSUMB email address. If you prefer to pick up the completed exam, we will hold it in the Test Center located in Heron Hall Room 155 for you to pick up. If you need the test immediately, we can place the test in a sealed envelope and your student can return it to you. Our signature, date and time will be across the seal. When the test is returned, we require a signature of the individual accepting the test. The Test Center will keep the signed sheet for our records.
A: While students should schedule their exams on the same day and time as the rest of the class, we understand that there are times when a student may have a compelling reason that requires them to schedule their exams on a different time or day. We ask that students schedule their exam for the date & time that the class is scheduled to take their exam. Once they have scheduled their exam, we ask the student to reach out to the instructor to discuss an alternate date & time that is agreeable for both the student and the instructor. Once our facility receives confirmation from the instructor regarding the agreed-upon alternate arrangements, we will manually adjust the start date & time of the student's exam.
A: The majority of the students that have been authorized for testing accommodations have either time and a half or double time as an accommodation. In order to check a student’s accommodations, please ask the student to see their “Course Accommodation Form” (CAF) letter. If the student is authorized for time and a half or double time he/she will receive the accommodated time based on the amount of time being allowed to the class.
For example, if you are allowing your class 1 hour for your exam, the student will then receive 1 hour and 30 minutes for an accommodation of time and a half or 2 hours for an accommodation of double time. This is automatically calculated by the Test Center based on each individual students' approved accommodations, so please be sure to only indicate the amount of time you are allowing in your classroom.
A sample of a CAF can be found in the SDR Faculty Handbook on page 20
A: If your online exams do not require a proctor (e.g. able to take the exam at home), students do not have to schedule their exam through the Test Center. We ask that you set individual exam accommodated durations within the testing software that you will be using. Please refer to the student's accommodation letter for the appropriate time allowance.
If your online exam is using a system that requires monitoring via webcam, we may require for you to provide an alternate method of accessing the exam as we do not have webcams available at our facility.
Depending on a student's approved accommodations, you may be asked to make a printed version available.
