While undocumented students have demonstrated incredible academic resilience, determination, and remarkable perseverance overall, the number of undocumented college students with status-related stressors is significantly high. For example, financial strains, deportation concerns, negative political and social climate, first-generation college student challenges, and financial limitations for renewal of the DACA application. Financial stress is one of the leading causes of undocumented students not being able to complete their educational and career goals. Undocumented students do not qualify for most forms of financial aid, including federal student aid (FAFSA), and are not eligible for federal work-study on campus. The overall financial burden of tuition, books, meals, and transportation significantly impacts retention and graduation rates of undocumented students.
