Present or Publish Your Research or Creative Activity
CSU Research Competition, hosted by a CSU campus every spring
CSUMB has a variety of campus-wide events, including the Spring Showcase, Fall Showcase, and Summer Symposium where you can present your research, scholarship or creative activity.
As part of professional development opportunities, undergraduate researchers are encouraged to attend conferences to present research, meet potential graduate school mentors, and network with researchers from across the country.
Designed for students to present their research, learn about graduate school opportunities, and meet researchers in different fields. Examples include:
- Sigma XI, Scientific Research Honor Society
- National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) hosted by Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR)
- Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)
- Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM (ERN)
Designed for researchers in a specific field to present their research and connect to other researchers with similar research interests. Talk to faculty and other students in your field about conferences in your discipline. Examples of conferences with strong support for undergraduate research are:
- American Geophysical Union (AGU) – Science
- Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)– Science
- Western Society of Naturalists (WSN) – Science
- Western Psychological Association (WPA) - Psychology
- Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) - Mathematics
- Humanities Education and Research, (HERA) - General Humanities
- CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology (CSUPERB) - Biotechnology
- Poster Presentation: a visual summary of your work that you present to conference attendees during an open poster session.
- Oral Presentation or Conference Talk: a formal presentation of your work to a conference audience. Typically range from 10-15 minutes to an hour.
- Other Presentation Formats: Some disciplines use round tables, panels, demonstrations, or other formats for showcasing their scholarship. If Posters and Oral presentations aren't common in your field, talk to a mentor in your discipline to be sure what presentation format is right for your project.

Access to the UROC large format printer allows UROC-funded undergraduates to print posters for conference presentations with the approval of UROC staff. Please note that our resources are extremely limited, so poster printing for non-UROC funded research or capstone presentations will not be approved.
Presenting at a conference or meeting? Contact uroc@csumb.edu to schedule a time at least 2 business days prior to your departure for all printing poster requests.
Attending conferences is an investment in your professional development, but keep in mind the typical costs while traveling: registration, travel to the conference, hotel or other accommodations, and meals.
Most conferences offer travel awards, grants or scholarships. Check the conference website or contact the organizers for details on how to apply. These are usually due 4-6 months before the conference so plan ahead.
