In Conversation with Feminist Abolitionist Organizer Richie Reseda
March 7, 2023
In Spring 2022, ADEC’s Love, Healing, and Abolition Speaker Series featured an event titled “In Conversation with Feminist Abolitionist Organizer Richie Reseda.” Richie Reseda is a music, film, and content producer freed from prison in 2018. He co-created and co-hosts the Spotify Original podcast Abolition X. While in prison, he started Question Culture, the independent media collective that houses his projects, and cofounded Success Stories, the feminist program for incarcerated men chronicled in the CNN documentary, The Feminist on Cell Block Y.
Before the conversation, ADEC hosted a watch party and discussion of the film The Feminist on Cellblock Y, a documentary about Richie’s work building a feminist movement from behind bars in an all-male prison in Soledad, CA. Our conversation with Richie centered on his work on transformative justice and addressing patriarchal harm. The discussion also touched on the need to bridge organizing and culture to grow feminist abolition in our communities, the importance of centering care in abolition feminism, and the skills we need to build to show up for each other in the right relationship.
We invite you to view a recording of the conversation here.
