Coronavirus Information

Health guidance

CSUMB is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our campus community and the surrounding public. We will accomplish this by providing University safety measures such as making COVID-19 testing and masks available, reviewing ventilation systems and cleaning/disinfecting.

Below are activities and resources that the campus community members may utilize as their own personal protective measures to support the health and safety of others.

  • Do not come to campus if you are sick or symptomatic. Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

For more information about the Coronavirus disease in the U.S., visit the CDC Coronavirus webpage.

    Steps for prevention

Personal Protective Measures are actions students and employees are strongly encouraged to maintain in order to ensure your own and others health and safety.

    • COVID-19 vaccination
    • Perform daily self-check (monitor symptoms/temperature checks)
    • Diagnosis/post-exposure COVID-19 testing
    • Avoid crowds and physical contact
    • Wear face coverings or N95 respirators and face shields
    • Maintain comfortable distance
    • Thoroughly wash hands
    • Routine custodial cleaning and enhanced cleaning as needed.
    • Clean public work spaces before use (supplies are available)

The CDC recommends that we help respond to this public health threat by taking standard precautions for the prevention of contagious respiratory illnesses like the flu. These steps include:

    • Access available vaccines
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick and do not come to work or attend class if you are ill or symptomatic.
    • Wear a mask in all indoor spaces if you are unvaccinated.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that are contaminated with germs.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Do not come to work or class if you are sick or symptomatic.

According to the CDC, people with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.

    Students

    • Monitor symptoms carefully.
    • Review the recommendations on the CDC website for managing the illness.
    • Contact your primary health care provider or call the Campus Health Center at 831-582-3965 before visiting either facility to make appropriate arrangements.
    • If notified that you are confirmed to have COVID-19, complete the COVID-19 reporting form.
    • Email or call CSUMB Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) at 831-582-3672 promptly if you experience symptoms that impact your course work.

    Faculty and staff

Per CalOSHA COVID-19 Prevention Non-emergency Regulation requires CSUMB employees to continue reporting their COVID-19 positive results and exposures for investigation and response through 2/3/2025

Contact your primary health care provider before visiting the provider's office to facilitate appropriate arrangements.

If notified that you are confirmed to have COVID-19, complete the COVID-19 reporting form. CSUMB employees should email their manager with information related to a confirmed case of COVID-19. State employees should copy Human Resources and Corporation employees should copy Corporate Human Resources when sending this notice.

If tested positive, employees will stay home and isolate for up to 10 days. If employees are feeling well enough, they can work remotely. There will be on-campus exposure response tracing for anyone the employee had close contact. Depending on the status of the case (if an outbreak), this may trigger a testing protocol.

  • Vaccination Safety

COVID-19 vaccinations are safe, free, and highly effective. CSUMB encourages all Otters to be vaccinated if they are medically eligible.

10/9/23: The Campus Health Center is administering the Fall 2023 Flu and Moderna (Spikevax) vaccine by appointment.

COVID-19 vaccines are widely available. Find a vaccination site near you at vaccines.gov.

Vaccinating against COVID-19 while still sick with COVID is not recommended. See CDC recommendation to wait after completion of isolation period.

Vaccinating after COVID-19 recovery is still needed. See CDC recommendation to vaccinate after recovery or delay up to 3-months, unless certain factors exist.

  • Students who feel stressed or overwhelmed may contact the Personal Growth & Counseling Center by calling 831-582-3969 to inquire about a screening appointment for brief counseling. After-hours support continues on the same PGCC number.
