Advisory Council Coordinator/Administrative Specialist works closely with the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS) superintendent and deputy superintendent on administrative functions supporting the local offices. As required, the Advisory Council Coordinator/Administrative Specialist will assist staff in producing written materials to address public questions, work with the superintendent to respond to inquiries internal to NOAA and ONMS and correspond with other agencies partners and internal to ONMS. The Program Support Specialist also supports the deputy superintendent with the administrative functions of the Sanctuary's Advisory Council (AC). The Program Support Specialist will be required to work on site in Monterey, CA, 3 days per week.

Professor David Chagaris's lab at the University of Florida is seeking highly motivated graduate (MS or PhD) research assistants to study climate impacts on fisheries. Are you interested in researching how fisheries resources and marine ecosystems respond to fishing and environmental change? Bridge the gap between ecosystem science, stock assessment, and management, while also advancing ecological theories and concepts - Program start date: Fall 2024

UCSB Sea Turtle Field Course and Expedition 2 WEEK PROGRAM COSTA RICA, SUMMER 2024  

Created by a graduate from UC Santa Bárbara - Bren School of Environmental Science & Management (BIOMA ) offers experiential learning and hands-on research experience. Our participants collaborate side by side with experts to learn about sea turtle biology, ecology and management while doing impactful on-site conservation work and living in a local community. Student will build skills of real-world application, boost their resume and knowledge while discovering incredible landscapes at Costa Rica’s Pacific sunshine coast.

The California Recreational Fisheries Survey Project is currently accepting Scientific Aid applications from highly-motivated and dedicated individuals who would like to work in the field, on and around boats, in a fast-paced setting.

Duties will include collecting recreational fishery data and biological samples at public launch ramps/docks/piers/etc., identifying finfish and invertebrates to species and collect biological data, and conduct onboard sampling of Commercial Passenger Fishing Vessels.

For more than 30 years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has been a key contributor to sea otter recovery in California. The Sea Otter Program is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to assist staff with the care and release of live-stranded sea otters.  This is a part-time position with paid Internships available January -> June 2024, and July -> December 2024.  Early submission of applications is encouraged!  Apply here.

NOAA Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary: Permit Coordinator

Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years of equivalent experience in the field of marine resource protection and proven experience in resource management, and issues related to marine and coastal protection. Demonstrated experience in data analysis tools including Microsoft Access and Excel, and Adobe digital imaging products. Experience with spatial and non-spatial concepts including projections, topology, relational databases, and cartographic production preferred. Dr. Laurie Richmond’s research lab at at Cal Poly Humboldt is seeking applicants for two fully-funded Masters degree positions in the Environmental Science and Management graduate program. The Field Experiences Support Program is now open for applications for the 2023-24 school year. We are now accepting applications for this program on a rolling basis, but no later than June 30, 2024, 5pm PST.

This program supports currently matriculated CSU undergraduate and graduate students to increase participation in ocean and coastal field experiences by economically challenged students. These funds can be used to support or enhance your participation in a CSU class, a research project led by a CSU faculty member, or a field course at an accredited institution. 

Funds must be used to allow you to do something you wouldn't be able to do otherwise or wouldn't be able to do without creating significant financial hardship. Applications from students who already have considerable field experience will be considered, but support for students who have little or no field experience will be prioritized.

We are pleased to announce that the COAST 2023-24 Student Travel Awards Program is now accepting applications for both remote and in-person conferences!

COAST provides support for continuing CSU undergraduate and graduate students to attend and present the results of original marine, coastal and coastal watershed research at remote and in-person scientific conferences. We are now accepting applications for conferences occurring October 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024.  Applications are accepted on a continual basis until funding is expended.

CSU COAST, in partnership with the CSU Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), is pleased to announce an opportunity for CSU graduate students to participate in year-long research and professional development fellowships as part of a US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) NextGen award to CSU ARI.

Students interested in natural resource management and conservation are encouraged to apply. Priority research topics include, but are not limited to, the following, all in the context of agriculture: 

  • Sustainable aquaculture;
  • Plastic and microplastic debris;
  • Nutrient runoff and coastal ocean acidification; and 
  • Pesticide use and water quality impacts. 

Projects can be based in any STEM discipline as well as the social sciences.
