Faculty Information About Student Accommodations
- Flexible Deadlines: Due to medical and/or disability-related impacts, students with disabilities may occasionally need brief extensions on large assignments such as papers, projects, or presentations. Students and faculty are encouraged to work together in advance of due dates when a student needs a flexible deadline, with students submitting specific requests 3-7 days before respective assignments are due. Flexible deadlines do not apply to group work, and generally do not apply to week-to-week assignments that build on one another (such as weekly lab work, homework, or forum discussions). SDR advisors are available to both students and faculty for consultation when considering what is reasonable and appropriate when determining flexible deadlines and extensions.
- Remote Attendance: SDR determines student eligibility for remote attendance, or virtual access, to in-person courses based on a student’s respective disability-related need. SDR encourages faculty to connect with the CSUMB Center for Academic Technologies (CAT) for guidance on how to ensure in-person courses are virtually accessible. For questions or concerns regarding remote attendance or virtual access, please contact SDR Advising to request a consultation.
- Advance Access to Materials: When students with disabilities utilize alternate media formats or assistive technologies to access their learning environment, faculty providing access to book information, materials, the online learning environment, and the course syllabus prior to the start of the term ensures equal access and opportunity for the student to keep pace with the course. Please consult with SDR Advising for further clarification or guidance around advance access to materials. For guidance on accessibility, please consult with the CSUMB Center for Academic Technologies (CAT).
